Getting Started With Colour
The choice of where to begin can feel daunting for anyone new to the world of colour. Being confronted with rows of paints in an art shop is often overwhelming, and can even prevent you from starting at all.
This difficulty can be easily overcome by working with a limited palette. All you need are the three primary colours—red, blue, and yellow—along with white. Many professional artists have worked in this way over the years.
If you start with your warm primaries a good starting point is cadmium red (light) , Cadmium yellow (light shade ), Ultramarine and titanium white. You can then really absorb yourself in getting to know these before adding anything else to the palette.
The combination of a warm red and yellow create sunny oranges that sing. Ultramarine and cad yellow create subtle greens perfect for the English lanscape. Cadmium red and Ultramarine make dirty purples perfect for subtleties .
All 3 colours not in equal measures with white added make perfect skin tones for caucasian skin tones . The white allows you to desaturate any colour you mix . You can enjoy your journey with this simple palette without feeling overwhelmed.
